Europeana builds migration-themed collection10/11/17Culture
EU digital platform for cultural heritage Europeana aims to show how the geographical movement of people makes cultures richer, and that migration is intrinsic to what it means to be European, on a societal and personal level.
The new collection is dedicated to migration to, from and within Europe.
Migratory movements have always affected human societies, cultures and civilisations across the world.
Europeana Migration will bring together collections dedicated to the theme throughout 2018 with the intention to build the collection by improving and adding content from cultural heritage institutions.
The official launch of Europeana Migration will be accompanied by a series of promotional and participatory activities and in line with the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
The events will be held in several European countries and will focus on the ways migration has helped to shape European cultural heritage.
The collection will bring together audio-visual material, archival content and textual collections. It will be the first time that these collections relating to migration will be gathered in one platform.
